Dr. Joan Rose

Joan Rose serves as the Homer Nowlin Chair for Water Research at Michigan State University, director and principle investigator of the Water Quality and Environmental Microbiology Laboratory, co-director of the Center for Advancing Microbial Risk Assessment (CAMRA), and director of the Center for Water Sciences (CWS). Joan's research focuses on waterborne bacteria and diseases, and their influence on drinking water and beach closings in the Great Lakes region. She has broad expertise in water microbiology, water quality and public health safety. She has served as an advisor on U.S. water policy through the Water Science and Technology Board of the National Research Council.
